£1 = one pound;
£1.50 = one pound fifty;
£2.50 = two pounds fifty;
£5 = five pounds;
but
£1.05 = one pound and five pence.

Examples:

– How much are these trousers, please?
– They’re £16.99.
– Oh that’s expensive.

– How much is this T-shirt, please?
– It’s £1.99.
– Oh, that’s cheap.
