1. Verbs + 2 objects

Some verbscan take 2 objects: give, show, pass, send, promise etc.


a) Give + a person + a thing

Give me the letter.

– Can you give me that crayon?


b) Give a thing + to + a person

Give the letter to me.

Give it to me.

– Can you give that crayon to me?



2. I would rather/I’d rather, I would prefer/I’d prefer

We use would rather with the sense of would prefer to.


Shall we go by train?

– Well, I‘d prefer to go by car.

– Well, I‘d rather go by car.


3. So do I / Neither do I

We use do/does in the expressions instead of main verbs, e.g. like, play, want.


– I like TV.
So do I.


– I listen to the radio in the morning.

– I don’t watch the news.
Neither do I.


– I don’t listen to the news.
Neither do I.
